History

The film production company deepeei was created in 2004 to make films that inspire and motivate. The two forces behind deepeei are Brechtje Smidt and Milan Collin.

deepeei film productions specialises itself in eye-opening, provocative and adventurous projects. With many years of experience in filming wildlife, deepeei has developed a well-trained ‘eye’ for detail and highlights only the important issues.

Whether we film for days in a small hide or climb the side of a mountain ridge to follow our subject, deepeei captures the experience and sensations of the moment. deepeei film productions has a wide experience in filming, from European nature, at high altitude mountain-areas in Asia or in the very dry inlands of Africa.

In 2006, deepeei film productions left for a challenging production of the North side of Mount Everest to film the ascent of German climber Thomas Weber. This footage resulted in our first production; ‘Der Friedhof meiner Freunde’. This 75” minute documentary was broadcasted in Germany (ARD) in July 2007. Our documentary ‘Eye to Eye with Everest’ is in post-production phase (2009).

In May 2008 ‘Miracle on Everest’ was broadcast on National Geographic. This 52” minute thrilling film tells the story of  Lincoln Hall using deepeei footage.

In June 2008, deepeei film productions finalised a  23” minute 5 part series on a Dutch expedition to Greenland in relation to climate change, Going North. This series was broadcast on Dutch public television in the summer of 2008.

In June 2009, a new 13 series production called Going South was started in North and South America. Two teams of two cyclers will take on a journey of a lifetime for the next seven months crossing the two American continents while looking at projects working to combat climate change. Deepeei will follow their trail.
