Inland Ice, a crossing of Greenland

<< Back to projects

Six Dutch friends decide to follow their dream. They share a passion for the great white landscape. A plan arises to cross Greenland unaided. Earlier adventurers have already left their signature in memories of many. Will our six friends overcome the hardships and join this list by succeeding in such an impressive expedition? Even though they are from very different backgrounds, and none is a professional adventurer?

The series visualises the effects of climate change. Greenland the icon and fragile polar environment facing critical threat from rising sea levels and global warming.

During two years we record the monthly meetings, sponsorship requests and training. All preparations must result in a successful Greenland crossing.

In April 2008 it is time for the six adventurers to leave friends and family behind. Will they overcome vast ice landscapes, jagged mountains, precipitous crevasses and severe physical hardship? A major concern will be the extreme pitoraq winds of 200 km/h. The speed combined with the extreme low temperature is a certain killer, and the only salvation is to dig a snow hole as fast as possible and sit out the storm.

Time will tell if the preparations have been enough, and if the team will make it back as one.

Inland Ice, a crossing of Greenland, is broadcasted in The Netherlands as Going North. A five part series aired by the AVRO in July 2008. This is a co-production with New Earth Films.

In August ’09 Inland Ice is sold to China.
